To enhance the scientific return of NASA's investment, data from NASA missions are archived and made available for research by the community. The Astrophysics Data Analysis Program (ADAP) provides financial support for investigations whose purpose is the analysis of NASA space astrophysics data that are in the public domain at the time of proposal submission. ADAP proposals are solicitated annually, and are one element in NASA's Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) solicitation for basic and applied research in support of the Science Mission Directorate.

ADAP proposals are submitted through NASA's Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System - NSPIRES. Proposals for the 2012 call were due on May 18, 2012. All Kepler data that had been released to the community as of May 18, 2012 were eligible for inclusion in ADAP proposals. As the content of Kepler's public archive grows, the Astrophysics Data Analysis Program will provide an increasingly important vehicle for the scientific return of the Kepler mission.
