Kepler Guest Observer Program

Overview of the Guest Observer Program

DATA PRODUCTS

Data will be delivered to the observer in FITS format. Data distribution and archival services will be performed through the Space Telescope Science Institute’s MAST (Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes). Final data products available to GO observers will include original and calibrated pixel images and light curves for each target. The calibration will correct for bias level, smear, galactic cosmic rays, flat fielding, dark current, background, and instrument noise. Aperture photometry will be used to generate the light curves.

The Kepler Input Catalogue (KIC) provides physical data for over 15 million stars (down to a magnitude limit of 19) present within and around the Kepler FOV. These data result from a compilation of existing databases (e.g. 2MASS, Hipparcos, SCP, Tycho-2, UCAC2, USNO-B1.0) and extensive ground-based imaging and spectroscopy surveys of the Kepler FOV performed by the Kepler Science Team. The KIC can be accessed through MAST by prospective GOs planning their science programs.
