Observing Period: May 2-Jun 15, 2009 Release Date: Jun 15, 2010
Fig 1: KIC 9025922. A Kp = 13.29 Q1 target revealing a planet-like transit on a 11.32 day
period. Through pixel data however, transits are identified with the Kp = 16.76 background star
KIC 9025914 that encroaches within the photometric pixel aperture. This particular target
therefore provides a false postive in the exoplanet transit search.
The Kepler mission announces the first full release of time series data collected
by the Kepler spacecraft. Calibrated photometric data for individual sources can be obtained from the
Kepler Archive at the Space Telescope Science Institute
(via the
Kepler Data Search and Retrieval
form. This first release comprises all data obtained over Q0 (spacecraft commissioning) and Q1.
The software pipeline at the Kepler Science Operations
Center (SOC) and the instrument calibration are on-going projects, investigators are urged to read the
Release Notes #5 and the
Data Characteristics Handbook in order to understand the accuracy and limits of this, and
future data releases.
During the 10 days of the Science data collection phase, designated Quarter 0
(Q0), the Kepler spacecraft observed 42,909 sources ranging from 5.8 < Kp < 15.0 within the
field of view in order to calibrate performance and define operational parameters for the
Science Mission. The exoplanet program began in Quarter 1 (Q1), spanning May 12 - Jun 18, 2009 with
147,903 sources ranging 5.1 < Kp < 17.4. Q1 was followed by a spacecraft roll in order to realign the
solar panels and download data. Users of this data should be aware that future re-deliveries of the
data for these sources will increase in accuracy and value as calibration and reduction
algorithms continue to develop with operational knowledge.
New users of the MAST archive are requested to
register before downloading data.
Please direct questions concerning the Q0-1 data to the

From the pull-down menu under 'User-specified field 1', choose 'Quarter', then enter
"0 .. 1" in the Field Description dialog box. This syntax selects both Q0 and Q1 data.
