Preceding the 2025 Sagan Summer Workshop, there will be an optional add-on half-day PROTO (PROfessional Tools and Opportunities) Workshop. The PROTO Workshop will cover the nuts and bolts of being an exoplanet astronomer, offering a how-to guide for getting exoplanet science done, rather than focusing on what the science is. Geared towards the early-career community, this will be an interactive session encouraging students of all ages to contextualize what they learn throughout the Sagan Summer Workshop and translate that into getting involved. By providing a venue for discussion of otherwise-hidden or undiscussed topics, the PROTO Workshop aims to reduce barriers that limit participation in the exoplanet community, throughout all career stages - from student through professional scientist.
This workshop will be a hybrid meeting and all are welcome to attend. Students unfamiliar with the path to becoming an astronomer and working with NASA missions are particularly encouraged to attend.
PROTO will take place in Baxter Lecture Hall at Caltech, the same venue as the 2025 Sagan Workshop. Note that the entrance to Baxter Lecture Hall is near at the south end of Baxter Hall, the same entrance as Ramo Auditorium.
Registration is on the same form as the 2025 Sagan Summer Workshop so you can register for both using this link.
Letters of attendance will NOT be provided for attendance at the PROTO workshop.
