Angle Tracker (KAT) Limits

  • V2 modes:
    • J-band, 80 Hz: 5.0 < J < 10.5
    • H-band, 80 Hz: 5.0 < H < 10.5 (K-band fringe tracking only)
    • high spectral dispersion mode (ASTRA-SPR): H-band, 80 Hz: 5.0 < H < 9.0
    • For binaries in which both components are in the angle tracker FOV, a single component can be selected and sent to the fringe tracker if the separation is greater than ~0.1 arcsec. This mode may result in decreased observing efficiency.
    • Dual Field Phase Referenced mode (ASTRA-DFPR): H < 13.
  • Nulling mode:
    • H < 4.3 mag (80 Hz)
    • J < 7.5 mag (80 Hz)
  • 40 Hz tracking also available: 1 magnitude fainter limits.
  • Split-pupil modes: 1 mag brighter limits.
  • For bright sources, a neutral density filter can be used to shift the range by up to 4.2 mag.
  • The FOV is 0.5 arcsec with a plate scale of 31 milliarcsec/pixel.
